For Mother’s Day I was going to make my Mom and my baby sister a flower arrangement and gift it to them. I intended to create some art from the heart and then be done. Thankfully my dear husband nudged me and encouraged me to take it one step further by teaching a
Flower Arranging Class
I decided to listen to the man and jump into his bright idea! I went with a color scheme of orange, yellow, and creme! A bright and cheery theme to show these mamacita’s some much deserved love. In a blink of an eye my cart was overflowing with beautiful blooms! Did I put some back? Umm..no of course not – plus my husband told me he was going to pay for the materials!
Hi Friends! The Marie Kondo way of life has made it’s way into homes all over the world! We have the Netflix series “Tidying up with Marie Kondo” to thank for the decluttering frenzy currently underway!
I wonder if you are one of the ones scurrying off to make piles of clothes that no longer “spark joy”? If so, – what are you going to do with that pile?
Hi Lovelies! It’s been a while since I’ve blogged and it’s because I’ve been out here
Living My Best Life
Bahahahaha – In all seriousness I have been over-complicating the level of effort required to create a blog post. Maybe that struggle does not plague you but it is a constant battle for me. Wanting everything I touch to be thought out to the Nth degree and perfect. 2 goals that can never truly be reached!
That being said it is time to:
Stop Mesh’n Around
Now that Labor Day is over the end of the 2018 – will be here TOMORROW! It’s holiday after holiday and then boom counting down to the New Year’s Eve ball drop!
I challenge everyone reading this to not wait until the end of the year to begin executing. Those grand ideas you have deserve some attention right now! They deserve attention – even if they aren’t fully “baked” and even if you don’t feel “ready”!
My favorite leaders are the ones who get an idea or a To Do – and execute on them right then and there. They don’t get put on a never ending to do list – they take immediate action.
The number one barrier to progression isn’t the “haters” it is our own:
Let that thought marinate while you view the mood capturing closet feature below. 🙂
A bubble can only be popped if there was a bubble blown in the first place!
Keep blowing bubbles – don’t dwell on the ones that popped.
Press into Passion!
Try & pop that bubble. I have plenty of dubble bubble. 🙂
As always – thank you for stopping by for the experience! If you love this size small dress – it will be listed to my Poshmark Closet shortly.
I have officially graduated from the “Grab & Toss Club”! You may not be familiar with this club because I just made it up 😀 – but don’t worry – I will give you the insider scoop!!! This club refers to the group of folks that love to grab a bouquet while out shopping, toss it into a vase at home, and step back like they just created magic.
My husband would watch me doing this every week and encouraged me to step into floral arranging. I decided that he was on to something and started to watch flower arranging YouTube videos to get my knowledge up. On our next grocery trip to Trader Joes I picked up 4 different bouquets to make a blue color schemed birthday bouquet. That handsome guy below just stepped into the Terrific Twos 😀 !
I spent $15 dollars on flowers at Trader Joes and got to arranging once all the kiddies went to sleep.
I played jazz, sipped on sangria, and wore a newly thrifted floral robe set. This mama was living her best relaxed life and loving every bit of it! I will admit before I started snipping and arranging – I was very nervous! I was nervous to mess up – but then remembered it’s art and to just go with it. Deep Breaths – woo saa- snip snip & Bam! $15 dollars worth of flowers were turned into 2 beautiful arrangements.
Y’all, I was sooo pleased with the results of my first flower arranging session!!! Until I learned that the blue hydrangeas – didn’t want to let the arrangement be great! 😦 I had been away from my flowers for less than 12 hours and returned home to find that the hydrangeas in the taller vase had wilted! That morning they looked fine, but by the afternoon they were on the struggle bus.
Wilted Hydrangeas 😦
I was soooo sad, but now I am glad that it happened – Why?
I Learned Something New
Cut hydrangeas are needy flowers and require lots of hydration! Before placing them into a vase be sure to:
1. Submerge the Flowers
Yep – baptize those beauties in a bucket of water except hold them under for a little while. Hydrangeas absorb water through their petals even when cut and require lots of water to stay perked up. Take your hydrangeas, snip the step, and fully submerge in cold water. I recommend leaving them submerged for a few hours, pulling them out, and giving a good shake. You can repeat this if they begin to droop again.
2. Cut & Split the Stem
Once you’ve taken the hydrangeas out of the water bath give the stem a horizontal snip with floral shears to get a clean-cut. Then take the scissors and vertically cut up the stem to increase water absorption.
3. Remove the Leaves
Those huge dark greens are beautiful and take up a lot of water. For the greater good of the petals – remove a couple of the leaves.
I followed the steps above for my wilted hydrangeas and they perked back up! They were restored as if freshly cut! I was beyond amazed & it reminded me to :
Never Give Up on People or Situations that Look Hopeless
My hydrangeas looked beautiful when I brought them home and due to improper care they wilted. Once I submerged them in water to give them the TLC that they needed – they perked back up. They showed no signs of ever being depleted – all because they were nurtured back to health via a 5 hour love bath.Y’all- I saw a video where cut hydrangeas had been kept out of water for 5 days (they looked dead) and were placed in a bucket of water for 24 hours – & they came back to life!
Please let this serve as a reminder to immerse yourself in an environment of love and to get help if you feel you are struggling with life. That time of intentional love may be what you or someone else needs to make it through a difficult season.
Plump Hydrangeas 🙂
Additional Hydrangea Care tips:
Hydrangeas release a sap when cut that can act like a barrier – preventing water from being absorbed. Dipping the stem in boiling water for 30 seconds and placing in cool water assists in removing the sap. I do not do this, however, if my hydrangeas were truly struggling I would jump on this.
Hydrangeas thrive in shorter vases – because again water. The stem is shorter, therefore, water can be absorbed quickly.
Cut hydrangeas should not be placed in direct sun – and should be kept in a place with some shade
When away from home or sleeping – placing the hydrangeas in the fridge helps retain moisture and increases the longevity. This tip goes for all flowers!
I have officially attended my first Poshmark social shindig (woot woot 😀 )! The Posh Party LIVE event made a stop in Chicago and I had quite the time! If you are new to Poshmark, interested in joining Poshmark, or just like to be surrounded by Go Getter Girls – check this event out! Not convinced? ….
Here are the 5 reasons to register:
1) Everyone is Invited
That’s right! You don’t have to be a seller or a buyer on the platform to partake in this Poshmark fun! Which means if you are simply interested in starting a closet one day – you can register! If you are on the platform and don’t have a Poshmark Bestie (PFF) to attend with you – bring a friend! I brought my sister and she had a great time – even though she isn’t a Posher! My sister fit right in and had a great time! The registration total for the both of us was $25 – super affordable! Grab a friend and go!!! They may just get motivated to start selling on Poshmark and become your next PFF!
My Sistie & I. ❤
2) Poshmark Tips
This is a no brainer reason to attend! There are closet consultations that you can pre-register for to get tips on improving your listings. A portion of the party time is dedicated to a Q&A panel where knowledge is shared from a select group of Poshmark gurus! At Posh Party LIVE Chicago – I learned about the importance of building your closet at your own pace, not being afraid to ask questions, and to look into investing into a Ring Light (apparently it’s life changing for photographing inventory).
3) Relationship Building
Getting to talk with other like-minded people is such a treat and this event pulls in the fashion finding reseller crowd! Stepping out and talking to people you have never met can feel like a daunting task, but the end result makes it so worth it. To be honest – I looooove talking but that first conversation with a stranger is such a struggle. Thankfully my sister was with me and encouraged me to leap and learn! I ended up talking with a handful of ladies and getting lots of knowledge! I learned about a new thrift store opening up and that the Goodwill locations in Chicago have a 69 cent sale! Information I never had before was now suddenly mine! Step out and build some relationships peeps.
4) Selfies & Usie Safe Haven
Yes, I put that a reason to attend the event! As a blogger and model the struggle to find someone to take your picture at the right angle – is beyond real! Posh Party LIVE had the cutest decor and photography stations. There was a photobooth/GIF maker with a sparkly backdrop! The GIF was instantly text to my phone and I was handed a printed photo collage – it was perfect! There was also an Ivy covered “Posh Party LIVE” wall for taking selfies and usies – & there were plenty of Poshers willing to take your photos so all of your crew could jump in!
NOW, I will say that as much as I love grammable moments – there has got to be balance. If you spend the whole event taking pictures of you looking cute, others looking cute, and you looking cute with cute backdrops – you may just miss out on Posh Tips & Relationship Building. I recommend capturing a few photos, putting the phone away, and engaging. Backdrops can be recreated, the individuals attending the event – not so much. Think on it. 🙂
This romantic skirt is Anthropologie – $5 thrift find.
Don’t let this reason scare you! Some folks were dressed like fabulous fashion bloggers while others looked everyday chic! The whole night I kept thinking “ooh that’s a cute outfit”….wait “that outfit is beyond cute”….and then I realized everyone was just so darn stylish! I left committed to stepping up my game!!! If you are thinking of going – please have fun and style yourself! It will most likely trigger folks to stop and drop the ” Oh, your outfit is amazing – what is your name?” line. I used that methodology and line when striking up conversations. 😀
These shoes are just sooo creative & make for a perfect conversation starter!
If you still aren’t convinced… here are two more bonus reasons!
Free Drink (with a nice pour 😀 )
Free Poshmark Goodies (stickers, cards, balloons)
Go ahead – add all the perks up and you will quickly see that the return on investment (ROI) is pretty darn good! To the Mom’s with young children – grab a jumbo balloon on your way out to take home. The kids will love punching it and will forget that you ever left (mine did at least 🙂 ).
I hope you leave inspired to attend a Posh Party LIVE near you.

If you are reading this and are not Black – that is okay! I love you too! As Tina Lawson, the mother of the dynamic daughters Beyoncé and Solange, said on the “Tina Taught Me” interlude:
“ It’s such beauty in Black people, and it really saddens me when we’re not allowed to express that pride in being Black; and that if you do then it’s considered anti-white. No! You just pro-Black. And that’s okay. The two don’t go together. Because you celebrate Black culture does not mean that you don’t like white culture; or that you putting it down. It’s just taking pride”
To be a Black Woman is an honor. I love being Black and part of a beautiful dynamic race of people. Every single shade of our spectrum oozes with melanin magic! A magic that has overcome obstacles of every kind. A magic that can not and will not ever be contained.
As much as society tries to replicate us they just cannot pull it off.
Our Swag is Non-Transferable.
Every time I am dealing with my coily kinky curls – despite the toil – I sure do love its versatility! I can rock a fro. I can wear braids. I can do flexi rod sets. I can wear it straight! Shoot –
Our Crown Can Conquer it All!
There is nothing it cannot do! Our hair is an outward reflection of our inner strength!
The world can press us, throw water on us, cut us, try to get us to curl up and lay flat – BUT
We are Resilient!
If I could choose a celebrity ‘Galentineine’ that represents this well – it would be our very own:
What a breath of fresh air! Seeing a Black Woman that advocates for all women yet never forgetting her own. A woman that is hilarious and highly intelligent. & doing it with a STYLE that is out of this world!
She holds us down in real life and on her latest show, Black-ish, – as the driven Dr. Rainbow “Bow” Johnson! In 2017, Tracee won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Comedy or Musical. When receiving her award, she said:
“This is for all of the women of color and colorful people whose stories, ideas and thoughts are not always considered worthy and valid and important”
May we all embody that mindset daily never forgetting to help the sistah behind us and the ones walking beside us.
These days I don’t watch many shows – but you best believe I stay on top of my “Black-ish”. One of my favorite scenes is from the Season 4 Episode “Working Girl” – the dialogue plays out like this:
Bow: For so long I have worked so hard to prove myself and I have always asked myself the same question. Can I do it all?
Dre: Of course, you can.
Bow: Yes, obviously I can do it all Dre! I can do everything. I’m great!!!
Pause – on all the dag nab levels! Her Black husband affirmed her greatness and she let it be known that she never forgot!!! Yassssssssss!
Thank you to our Black King’s that support us and lift us up.
We appreciate you, honor you, and pray for your protection daily.
Dear Black Woman, Keep showering the universe with all that magical Black fairy dust!
There is nothing like the adrenaline rush of visiting a new thrift spot! While visiting family in St. Louis – I explored three thrift stores. One of them was the Goodwill located in Brentwood, Mo. This spot only ended up on my radar after doing some Instagram stalking and hearing folks talk up this location! The FOMO syndrome started to kick in and before you knew it….the whole family was getting buckled in the car! 🙂
To make sure we were fully equipped for this adventure – the first order of business was to stop at:
Jilly’s Cupcake Bar & Cafe
I have been dragging my husband to Jilly’s since before the kids were even thought of – so it is always on my list of things to do when in St. Louis. We had actually tried going a couple days prior – but they were all out of the cupcake I wanted. 😦 The second attempt was a SUCCESS!
Finally, the “Beautiful Unicorn Cupcake” was in my possession!!! C’mon who doesn’t want to be magical?!?
Hmm Hmm Good!
aka The Beautiful Unicorn!
What a Mane!
After demolishing the cupcakes in epic fashion – it was time to thrift!
I grabbed my cart and started to do my thang! But of course – my sugared up kids wanted to get into everything. Sourcing and parenting was becoming a difficult task – then suddenly it hit me – where the heck was my beloved husband?!? Seriously…….
Yep, he was straight chillin in the furniture section reading a $1 book he grabbed. Y’all he was living his best life and had me thinking “Umm is this my trip or your get away” ? 🙂
Well it must have been meant to be because right in front of him was the shoe rack. This peaked my interest and saved him from my wifey wrath! 🙂 Usually this section is avoided. I only thrift things that I could see myself wearing and pre-loved shoes are not my thing – nevertheless I started to browse.
To my surprise – I found not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 brand new pairs of shoes!!!! You read correctly:
To level set – this is not a permission to treat yourself into debt post – it is a reminder that there are small ways to pat yourself on the back for a job well done.
Let me give you an example: For one week I embarked on a no spend challenge. I accomplished my goal and did not swipe my card for 7 days! As a reward, all I wanted was a couple of Charm’s Jumbo Blow Pop Suckers. Two for me and one for each of my boys. 🙂
Before satisfying my $1.50 sugar craving – I stopped at my local Salvation Army to source inventory for my Poshmark Closet. Then BOOM, the heavens opened up with angelic voices singing (just go with the theatrics) & my orange obsessed eyes locked in on a brand new BCBGmaxazria pleated cocktail dress – IN MY SIZE!!!
I was hoping the dress had a white tag attached as that was the ½ off color of the week. Nope, it was a red tag item. 😦 In Salvation Army lingo – that means pricey and slim chances of a mark down. 😦
The price of this dress was $10 (after tax)!
That is a lot of money to spend on one item (in my world). The fact that the dress was gorgeous, high quality, new with tags, a reputable brand, and in my favorite color – changed the game completely!
Nevertheless, the war within was giving me whiplash! Should I spend $10 to treat myself or save the money to carry over into the next month?!? The DJ Khaled voice won by a landslide:
Don’t Ever Play Yourself
The $10 dollar dress with a MSRP of $298 is now in my personal closet! Oh, and I got those suckers too – stackin’ treats! 🙂 Y’all I cannot wait to wear this reminder of hitting a personal goal! Warm weather come through, puhlease!
Friends, my prayer for you is that as you compound victory after victory you remember to :
Take your Victory Lap & Do your Victory Dance
Whether the reward is small or whether it is large – it will give you the fuel to conquer the next goal! Stay the course Goal-Getters! 🙂
One year ago, I stopped overthinking and created my Poshmark account!
I started off with clothes from my personal closet and thrift finds in my size. That way if an item didn’t sell I could at least wear it.
Modeling outfits and then listing was the mission- but I had no camera man! 😢 My sweet husband made it known that he was not going to have me bossing him around trying to get the right angles (talk about foresight)! Sooooo I side eyed real hard (prob snapped off) and ordered a tripod with a bluetooth clicker. 😁
My 3 legged camera man arrived Superbowl Sunday! I was sooooo hype and not a dagnab thing was gonna get in my way! My 9 month old was going to have to find another milk source temporarily – because this Mama was getting in the zone! I grabbed my outfits, slipped on my heels, and got my model on like a bizosss!
I was sooo excited to have a thing! This new adventure had nothing to do with my corporate grind, being a mom, or being a wife – it was just my own thing! My reason for starting wasn’t to make lots of money – it was to prove that I can:
Push Beyond a Thought
I would always get excited about some idea, over-complicate, make an excuse, and then do nothing!
One step turns into two steps and snowballs into a hundred more!
January 2017 – I made a Poshmark account
February 2017 – I made my first listing
March 2017 – I made my first sale!
& the rest… is well….too long for this blog post 🙂
